UniTracks combines assessment weightings, module credits and academic-year rules to show where your degree stands and what you may need next.

Assessment weighting

Each assessment contributes according to its percentage of the module. A mark of 70% in an assessment worth 40% contributes 28 weighted points to that module.

Module average = Σ(mark × assessment weight) ÷ Σ(known assessment weights)

Assessment weights should total 100%. UniTracks warns when they do not.

Module credit weighting

Modules with more credits have more influence on an academic year. A 40-credit module counts twice as much as a 20-credit module when both contribute under the same rules.

Year average = Σ(module average × module credits) ÷ Σ(counted module credits)

Academic-year weighting

Contributing academic years are combined using the year weights you enter. For a degree weighted 30% in second year and 70% in final year, the final-year result has the greater effect.

Degree average = Σ(year average × year contribution) ÷ Σ(used year contributions)

Your university may use a different profile, exclude a placement year or apply special classification rules. Set the calculator to match the official regulations you have been given.

Confirmed marks and estimates

A confirmed mark is treated as banked performance. An estimate can be used to build a projected result, but it does not become confirmed. UniTracks keeps those views separate so an optimistic estimate is not mistaken for a result you have earned.

Goal Requirement

UniTracks first calculates the weighted contribution already banked, then divides the points still needed by the eligible weight that remains.

Required average = (target contribution - banked contribution) ÷ remaining contribution

Example: if your target needs 60 weighted points, 36 are already banked and 40% of eligible work remains, the required average is (60 - 36) ÷ 0.40 = 60%.

Secured and mathematically unachievable targets

If the calculated requirement is 0% or below, the target is shown as secured under the entered rules. If it is above 100%, it is shown as mathematically unachievable through the remaining eligible work. These states describe the mathematics of the data entered, not an official award decision.

UniTracks provides estimates and planning tools. Official rules can include resits, capped marks, compensation, condonement, progression requirements, borderline profiles, best-credit rules, placement handling and course-specific exceptions that a general calculator cannot safely assume.
